  • Reported in the 1923 Virginia Polytechnic Institute Bugle that Day "flew with the AEF in France and piloted a burning aeroplane for 1500 feet during descent before he was forced to give up and crash to earth. After this he was carted off to the repair station with a memorandum which contained the following entries: broken - one anckle, four ribs, nose, and numerous lacerations of the face and body."
  • Served in the Army Air Service for 21 months
