The VPI 1919 Bugle writes that after Collyer traveled through "the mines of Korea [he] took a notion that he would like to see France. Accordingly he returned to this country and enlisted in the aviation branch of the service, being sent to ground school at Princeton [University]. Finishing there he went to Camp Dick, Texas, and later to Souther Field, George, where he received his commission.
